For better or for worse, what your customers say about you online could wind up having a really big impact on the way that people see your business. The last thing that you want is for a few negative reviews to scare people away from giving your products or services a shot.

Fortunately, it’s surprisingly easy to get people to say nice things about you online.

Here are some strategies that you can implement to improve what your customers are saying about you:

  • Always say thank you. Simple, right? I’m constantly amazed at how many businesses don’t have policies in place to thank customers after every purchase, or to thank loyal customers for their continued patronage. There are many ways that you can say thank you, from a follow-up email to a type of special promotion for loyal customers.   • Let your personality shine through. What’s more boring a company that only uses the same old corporate speak when dealing with customers? Show a little personality – it’ll differentiate you from your competition and make your business seem a whole lot more genuine. Let your customer service reps be actual people rather than scripted drones. Have a real voice behind the content that you write. Simply put, don’t be boring.
  • Give unique opportunities. A really cool way to connect with your customers is to ask for help testing out new products or features. If you pull back the veil a bit and let your customers see behind the scenes of your company, they’ll feel like they have a much greater connection with your business and be way more likely to say good things about your company online.
  • Be consistent. In everything you do, especially in your interactions with your customers, you need to be consistent. This isn’t to say that you standardize everything to the point where you compromise the personality of your business. But you should be consistent with the quality of your service and with the tone that your company exudes. If people know they can expect consistent excellence from your company, they’ll give you good reviews and keep coming back for more.
